Soft wash vs pressure washing: which does your home need?
Homeowners often ask for “pressure washing the house” when what they really need is a soft wash. The difference matters for siding, paint, and long-term results.
Pressure washing
High-pressure water is excellent for hard surfaces: driveways, sidewalks, and many patios. Used wrong on siding, it can drive water behind walls, etch finishes, and leave tiger striping.
Soft wash
Soft wash uses lower pressure with the right detergent to break down algae, mildew, and oxidation, then rinses clean. For most house exteriors in North Texas, this is the safer default.
Quick rule of thumb
- Concrete and most hardscape: pressure washing (matched to the surface).
- House siding, fascia, and many fences: soft wash.
